Our Activities

At Sunny Days Child Care Services, we pride ourselves in offering activities that are educational, inspiring, and that keep children engaged. A great deal of planning goes into our weekly programs, and this is reflected in the positive responses seen in the children.

Below are the general categories of activities we regularly implement. These activities derive from various learning outcomes that link back directly to the Early Years Learning Framework:

Storybooks

We have a catalogue of age-appropriate reading & picture books, for all literacy levels between the ages of 1-6 years old. Our books are accessed during group story-telling, or during free-reading activities.

Painting

We have a range of non-toxic paint colours, brushes, and canvas materials, and also offer protective equipment to prevent spillage on clothing.

Colouring

We offer numerous and regularly changing age-appropriate stencil illustrations for children to colour-in with coloured pencils, felt pens, & pastel crayons.

Collaging

Our children enjoy collaging with materials including cellophane, coloured paper, sticks, leaves, felt, glitter, & glue.

Gardening

The service includes an outdoor gardening area in which the children can grow their own plants. Depending on the activity, we provide seeds for growing tomatoes, mint, parsely, basil, & rocket.

Themed Events

At various times of the year, we hold events that may be themed to certain cultural experiences or public holidays. On these days, we organise activites to reflect the events so that the children can develop an understanding about the world around them.

Building Blocks

Building block activities are great for spatial thinking development. Our service has activities that include wooden blocks, magnetic links, and plastic shapes.

Dress-Up

Dramatic play allows children to explore their identity and learn more about the identities of others. We regularly hold dress-up activities with numerous age-appropriate costumes.

Dancing

Physical exercise is an important aspect of a healthy lifestyle, and dancing is a great way to integrate this requirement while having a fun time.

Water-Play

In Australia, the summer months are especially hot, and we offer water-play (such as a water table, boogie boarding, bubble blowing, and sprinklers), during this time to cool the children down, while implementing a refreshing sensory experience.

Arithmetic

The Early Years Learning Framework has various standards for the development of skills in numeracy and arithmetic. We regularly hold activities that teach counting, addition, subtraction, metrics, and give examples where this knowledge can be applied.

Playdough

Tactile activities are especially important for children of younger ages, and that is why we regularly implement playdough-based activities that integrate stimulus such as sand, slime, and beads among other materials.

Jigsaws

We have various age-appropriate jigsaws in order of increasing difficulty, which help children to develop problem-solving skills from a young age.

Singing

Singing is a therapeudic activity that can be very engaging. We hold group sing-alongs, and may occassionally integrate craft-made percussion instruments for added fun.

Action Figures

Action figures are excellent toys for exploration and development of identity. Our service has numerous action figures that can be involved in dramatic and free play.

Swingsets

Our service includes a four-seated swingset, with each swing varying in design for age range. The swingset also includes a hoop for basketball playtime.

Napping

Napping is important for children of younger ages, as their bodies are still developing and require time to rest and recuperate. Every day at midday, our service transforms the activity room into a nap-room, with clean mattresses and linen supplied.

Toileting

As children grow, their toileting needs change. Our staff are highly skilled in educating and promoting regular toileting routines to children of all ages.
